The Diocese of Beaumont made its presence known as the National Black Catholic Congress XI, held July 19-21 in Indianapolis, continued.

James Carter, parishioner of St. James, Port Arthur, took home the Servant of Christ Award for the work he does in his parish as well as in his community and the diocese at large.

Delegates from Southeast Texas, accompanied by Bishop Curtis Guillory, SVD, and Linda LaCour, director of African American Ministry, attended more workshops and general sessions as the Congress continued. (more…)

VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Everything Paolo Gabriele did, he did for love of the church and the pope, said the lawyers for the personal assistant to Pope Benedict XVI accused of leaking private documents.

However, Carlo Fusco and Cristiana Arru, the defense lawyers, said whether or not anything Gabriele did was a crime will be up to Vatican magistrates or a Vatican court to determine. (more…)
