C-rgbChristus Health announced June 29 a new path forward for Christus Health Southeast Texas. This path will include a new strategic direction that will transform how Christus Health Southeast Texas delivers healthcare to the nine counties it serves as well as a new patient-centered model to provide access to care beyond the traditional hospital setting or through an Emergency Room.

By 2018, Christus Southeast Texas Health System will increase its service offerings from an existing 27 to more than 40 locations region-wide, adding access to urgent care centers, outpatient clinics, primary care practices and state-of-the-art specialty care. (more…)

Diocesan Youth Convention – Day 3

Day three of the convention started with morning prayer and Mass, followed by an address by keynote speaker, Doug Tooke.

Following the general session, the youth broke out into guy/girl sessions before heading back into the ballroom for a wrap-up before lunch and break before the awards banquet.

The St. Timothy Awards Banquet featured awards for individuals and parishes. This year’s Outstanding Large Parish Youth Ministry went to St. Jude Thaddeus, Beaumont. St. Timothy Awards went to Bradford Downs, Holy Trinity, Mont Belvieu, and Anna Sigur, St. Catherine of Siena, Port Arthur.

fr thompsonThe Josephite Priests and Brothers elected Father Michael L. Thompson, SSJ, as Superior General during their General Conference June 15-19. The Conference, held at Saint Joseph Seminary in Washington, D.C., takes place every four years to conduct regular business by elected representatives of the community.

Father Thompson, 57, a native of Port Arthur who grew up attending Sacred Heart Church, had been serving as Vicar General since 2011. He is the 14th Superior General of the religious community, founded 144 years ago to minister to African Americans. His term runs for four years. (more…)

Beaumont Catholic Bishop Curtis Guillory is asking Southeast Texans to respond affirmatively to Pope Francis’ call today for people of good will to take steps toward treating all of creation with respect and concern.

Pope Francis has issued his long awaited encyclical on the environment reminding the world that caring for the environment is a human and moral obligation and that pollution has left a heavy impact, especially on the poor.

In the 184-page document called “Laudato Si’, on Care for our Common Home,” the pope decries the centuries of exploiting the earth and its people by saying very bluntly that this earth home “is beginning to look more like a pile of filth.” (more…)

DSC_0608-RetouchedEven with Tropical Storm Bill making landfall hundreds of miles away at Matagorda Island, the effects were felt in Southeast Texas when storms continued for days, flooding many areas and especially hitting hard in Jasper County. Diocesan Youth Convention – Day 2

Sarah Kroger was the speaker for the June 18 morning general session. “Trials and suffering can be good,” Kroger said. “How will you respond to trials in your life? Will you let it happen or stand back up and fight? That’s the choice you have to make.”

The morning also included rosary and Mass.
